Book Club’s Inaugural Title

The Tribe

Santaluces Book Club chose “The Way I Used to Be” for their first read together.

Kimberly Thelusme, Staff Writer

During the first book club meeting this year, members unanimously decided to all read the same title: The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith. The story follows the young protagonist Eden on her journey through high school. Like most teenagers, Eden faces social and academic challenges, however she is silently suffering the trauma of having been raped by her brother’s best friend. As the world around her seems to continue on as normal, Eden finds herself spiraling out of control as she tries to bury her trauma through a series of flawed choices.

Despite the triggering content, book club members agreed, this was worth the read.
