Chiefs of Santaluces: Kyle Swaters

Matthew Leto, Staff Writer

“One of the most memorable moments I’ve had was when I built my own custom guitar with my dad. I wanted something exactly the way I had imagined in my head. There were no guitars in production or in stores that seemed to satisfy all of the specifications in the guitar I was after. I decided that buying all the parts and putting it together myself would give me the guitar I’ve always wanted. Building a guitar gave me a great sense of pride in myself as well. All of the hours I had spent tweaking the setup, soldering the electronics, and the painting process made me appreciate the instrument much more when it was finished than any guitar that I could have ever bought. I created the guitar’s sound, rather than just buying it off of a store shelf, which is pretty special in my mind. It is my favorite guitar that I own by far.”
